What Illinois law guarantees

Under Illinois Hospital Uninsured Patient Discount Act (210 ILCS 89), Wabash General Hospital 1 must provide FREE care to uninsured patients at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty Level, and discounted care for patients up to 300%. The hospital may collect no more than 20% of your yearly family income.

Because Wabash General Hospital 1 is a Critical Access (rural) hospital, Illinois law sets lower limits: free care up to 125% and discounts up to 300% of the Federal Poverty Level.

This is the legal minimum — Wabash General Hospital 1 may offer more generous help. The only way to know is to apply, and applying is always free.

Apply within 90 days of receiving your bill — that is the deadline to claim this discount under Illinois law, so apply as soon as it arrives.
